Playa Cala Agulla

The beach supports many different kinds of day: families settle near the main entrances, younger groups gather around seasonal services, and walkers continue towards Cala Molto or the hills beyond. Because the shoreline is long, the atmosphere changes noticeably from the developed southeastern end to the quieter northern side.

Cala Agulla faces weather arriving from the north and northeast. A fresh Tramuntana can turn a clear morning into a surfier afternoon, with foam lines travelling quickly across the shallows. That is the moment to keep children close to the sand and leave paddleboards or inflatables unlaunched, however calm the bay appeared earlier.

Cala Agulla is a broad white-sand beach on the northern side of Cala Ratjada, framed by pine woodland and protected dunes. Its generous scale and open-sea outlook make it one of Capdepera's busiest beaches, yet the natural backdrop remains far stronger than at a conventional urban resort.

The walled town of Capdepera rises inland beneath its medieval castle. Founded in the early fourteenth century as a fortified settlement, the enclosure offered protection to the scattered population of the district and commanded views towards the Menorca channel.

Cala Ratjada provides the practical coastal centre, with its fishing harbour, restaurants and bus connections a short distance from the beach. The contrast between the old hill town, working harbour and large natural bay gives Cala Agulla a broader identity than sand alone.

The beach forms a long pale arc between rocky points, with Aleppo pines and dunes directly behind much of the sand. Managed crossings guide visitors through vegetation that is easily damaged by shortcuts, while paths continue into the protected Llevant landscape.

The sea often shows vivid blue and turquoise bands over the sandy bottom, but the broad mouth leaves the bay visually and physically open. Cala Agulla's defining balance is unusual: high summer popularity in the foreground, and a substantial green coastal frame that prevents the beach from feeling fully urbanised.
