About Playa Cala Mesquida
The first access points feel like a popular holiday beach, with families, sunbeds and seasonal services close to the resort. Walking north changes the character rapidly: the sand becomes broader, the buildings fall behind and wind, dune grass and open water take over. The far side has long attracted visitors seeking a more natural and less organised setting.
This bay receives the full force of northerly and easterly weather. Foam moving diagonally along the shore is a clear sign that water is travelling sideways as well as inwards, making a casual swim far less simple than it looks. On such days, the dunes and coastal paths provide the better experience while the surf is left to people properly equipped for it.

The Setting
Cala Mesquida is a large sandy bay on Capdepera's northeast coast, backed by one of Mallorca's most impressive dune systems. Development is concentrated at one end, while the rest of the beach opens towards dunes, scrub and the hills of the Llevant landscape.
The boardwalk through the dunes is the immediate local reference, protecting the vegetation while giving access to the beach. Behind it, a shallow torrent and seasonal wet ground support reeds and birdlife that are easy to miss from the resort entrance.
A walking route climbs towards the Talaia de Son Jaumell, the old watchtower on the ridge between Cala Mesquida and Cala Agulla. Birds also use the damp ground behind the dunes. The ascent places both bays within the wider defensive and natural geography of Capdepera.
Fine pale sand forms a deep curve between rocky headlands. Dune ridges rise behind the northern half, patterned by grasses and low shrubs, while pine and rough hills close the inland view.
Cala Mesquida is visually dynamic rather than permanently serene. Wind reshapes the sand, waves alter the waterline and cloud shadows move across the wide bay. Its identity comes from exposure and scale, with a busy access point sitting beside a much larger protected coastal system.
