Playa Font de sa Cala

The cove is sociable and easy to use, with families, hotel guests and local residents sharing a relatively short strip of sand. Services are close, and the sheltered shape often makes the water look approachable. Because the beach is small, the atmosphere changes quickly when coach groups or nearby accommodation send people down at the same time.

Pedalos and other hire craft turn within a confined bay during the main season. A long cross-cove swim is therefore less comfortable than staying parallel to the sand, particularly when the centre is busy. The rocky sides are interesting for a mask and snorkel in settled water, but they become slippery and awkward once small waves start rebounding from the stone.

Sa Font de sa Cala is a compact sandy cove south of Cala Ratjada, enclosed by low wooded slopes and a small residential resort. Its name refers to a freshwater spring among the rocks, a local detail that gives this otherwise modern beach a distinctive natural anchor.

The spring that gives Sa Font de sa Cala its name emerges near the shoreline and can create a noticeably cooler patch of water. It is a reminder that the cove is shaped not only by the Mediterranean but also by water moving through the limestone ground behind it.

Capdepera lies inland beneath its castle, while Cala Ratjada's harbour and promenade are reached along the coast to the north. These nearby centres provide history and town life without changing the cove's more contained resort character.

Pale sand sits between low rock ledges, pine, tamarisk and landscaped hotel grounds. The bay is neither wild nor densely urban: buildings occupy parts of the rear and one side, while vegetation still softens much of the outline.

The water can appear intensely blue where the sandy bottom meets darker submerged rock. From the beach, the cove mouth frames a narrow section of open sea rather than a huge horizon. Sa Font de sa Cala is memorable for scale, enclosure and the unusual meeting of spring water, stone and salt.
