About Playa Port Vell

The Vibe

The cove is suited to slow mornings and short family visits. It also works as a quiet pause during a walk between the neighbouring Son Servera beaches. Residents from nearby homes mix with walkers following the coastal road, while the limited beach area prevents the busy, organised atmosphere of Cala Millor. Space can become scarce in the main summer weeks, particularly around the simplest access.

The seabed combines sand with rocky patches, particularly towards the sides. Small waves rebound from the cove's edges when an easterly breeze arrives, making the entry less comfortable than its sheltered shape suggests. In calmer weather, the same rock adds visual interest beneath the surface.

The Setting

About

Port Vell is a small sandy cove on the Son Servera coast north of Cala Bona on the approach to Costa dels Pins. Low rock, clear-looking water and a residential backdrop give it a contained, peaceful character without making it feel remote.

The Local Anchor

Port Vell forms part of a sequence of small beaches leading north from Cala Bona. The fishing harbour there provides the nearest strong maritime landmark, while Costa dels Pins continues beyond Es Ribell towards the greener northern end of the municipality.

Son Servera town lies inland, with local shops, a weekly market and the distinctive unfinished New Church. These places give visitors alternatives to the resort coast and show that Port Vell belongs to a wider municipality rather than an isolated holiday development.

The Landscape

A short strip of sand occupies a shallow indentation between low stone margins. Mediterranean planting and modest residential buildings rise behind the shore, but the scale remains low and the open eastern horizon is unobstructed.

Natural Posidonia leaves may settle on the sand after wind or currents, especially outside the main cleaning season. They protect the shoreline and signal the living seagrass meadows offshore. Port Vell's appeal lies in this ordinary coastal texture: a small beach, quiet roads, rocky water and enough vegetation to separate it from the denser resort frontage farther south.
