About Playa del Gurugu
Gurugu is often the most animated and socially active of the city's three beaches. Music and conversation drift from seasonal venues, young groups gather near sports areas, and evening activity continues after the strongest heat has passed. The atmosphere is energetic rather than exclusive, with families, residents, sports groups and visitors sharing the same long public waterfront.
The beach nevertheless remains an open Mediterranean shore despite its organised appearance. Wind can strengthen during the day, and waves may change quickly, so flags and lifeguard instructions take priority. Swimmers should also respect marked channels used by water-sport craft and keep clear of activity zones.

The Setting
Playa del Gurugu occupies the central section of Castellon's coastline, between El Pinar and Serradal. Its broad sand, beach clubs, sports areas and long promenade give it a sociable summer character while retaining enough space for ordinary family use.
The Gurugu promenade links the Grao and El Pinar with Serradal and the Benicassim direction. It forms part of a wider coastal route used by walkers and cyclists, making the beach easy to experience as one stage of a longer seafront journey.
Castellon's Grao lies to the south with its port, Planetarium and seafood restaurants. Behind the central beach are low coastal facilities and open ground rather than the dense high-rise wall found at some resorts. This gives Gurugu a strong social life without removing its connection with the wider landscape of La Plana.
The beach is wide, sandy and almost completely horizontal. Long views extend in both directions, with El Pinar's greener edge to the south and Serradal's dunes to the north. The sea horizon remains uninterrupted.
Gurugu's visual identity comes from activity spread across a generous space: volleyball courts, access walkways, seasonal beach venues and people moving along the promenade. It is not a secluded or historic beach, but it is a clear expression of contemporary Castellon by the sea - open, communal and closely connected with the Grao.
