About Playa del Cerezo

The Vibe

El Cerezo feels easy-going and community-led. Families settle close to the main walkways, regular swimmers arrive early, and the open sand leaves room for games without creating the scale of a major resort. Summer services make the beach convenient, yet the atmosphere remains rooted in the small coastal district of Xilxes rather than mass tourism.

The Mediterranean can look gentle along this low shoreline, but conditions still change with wind and swell. Flags and lifeguard instructions should guide swimming, especially near the breakwaters and any marked activity channels. Natural shade is limited on the sand, so visitors staying through the afternoon need protection from the sun.

The Setting

About

Playa del Cerezo is the southern bathing sector of Xilxes, a broad urban beach where fine sand meets patches of coarser material and rounded stones. Its promenade, accessible facilities and straightforward layout make it the practical family counterpart to Les Cases at the northern end of the resort frontage.

The Local Anchor

The seaside neighbourhood is separate from the historic inland town of Xilxes, a pattern found along much of southern Castellon. The promenade, seasonal restaurants and accessible bathing point provide the immediate focus, while the town centre lies across the flat agricultural plain.

To the north, Les Cases offers a different mix of sand, gravel and sheltered sections. El Cerezo therefore works well for visitors who want the clearest concentration of services and an uncomplicated route from street to water, without needing the entertainment infrastructure of a larger coastal city.

The Landscape

The beach forms a long, open band between the Mediterranean and a low urban edge. Fine sand dominates the main bathing area, while groynes and coarser material introduce changes in texture along the waterline. The horizon remains broad and uncluttered.

Behind the promenade, the land is flat and the buildings remain modest in height. There are no cliffs or dramatic headlands; the character comes from space, accessibility and the gradual transition between town, shore and sea. El Cerezo is best appreciated as a practical, welcoming beach where the scale of Xilxes keeps the waterfront calm even during busy summer weeks.
