About Playa Santandria

A whisper of a beach, Cala Santandria is an intimate Menorcan secret, tucked away just south of the noble city of Ciutadella. It is a place for slow, sun-drenched days and the simple poetry of the Mediterranean.

The Vibe

The air hums with a gentle energy, a soft counterpoint to the lively chatter of families and the splash of children in the calm, shallow waters. Laughter drifts from the handful of restaurants nestled along the shore, carrying the faint, delicious scent of garlic and grilled seafood. It’s a tranquil scene, a world away from the clamour of larger resorts, where the rhythm is dictated by the sun’s arc across a turquoise sky and the unhurried pace of island life. The mood is one of pure, unadulterated relaxation, a collective sigh of contentment from locals and discerning travellers alike.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

Standing silent guard over the cove’s entrance is the Torre des Castellar, a formidable defence tower built by the British between 1799 and 1802. This stone sentinel, also known as Torre de Sa Caleta, was designed to be inconspicuous from the sea, its robust form a reminder of Menorca’s strategic importance and storied past. A short stroll along the Camí de Cavalls coastal path reveals this historic fortification, connecting the peaceful sands below with a history of empires and maritime vigilance.

The Landscape

This charming inlet is carved into the island's western coastline, a narrow embrace of low, rocky cliffs and fragrant pines. The beach itself is a sweep of fine, pale sand that slopes gently into the sea, creating a vast, crystal-clear pool of extraordinary turquoise. The water is so transparent that the sandy bottom is revealed in intricate detail, inviting long, meditative swims out into the sheltered bay. Palm trees add a touch of the tropical, their fronds rustling in the gentle sea breeze that whispers through this perfect coastal haven.
