About Playa Migjorn

The Vibe

Migjorn offers space and variety. Some sections have restaurants, accommodation and organised summer services, while others feel quiet and lightly developed. Families, couples and long-stay island visitors choose the part that suits them, from easy bathing areas to more secluded stretches reached along tracks and wooden walkways.

The south coast remains open to wind and swell, so conditions can vary considerably along its length. One bay may appear calm while another receives stronger waves. Swimmers should follow flags and local advice, and anyone exploring rocky margins needs footwear and caution. Early morning and evening are especially rewarding for walking when the heat is lower.

The Setting

About

Es Migjorn is Formentera's long southern beach, extending for several kilometres through a sequence of sandy bays, rocky sections and low dune-backed shores. Rather than one uniform strand, it is a changing coastline with different access points and moods from one section to the next.

The Local Anchor

The beach is closely linked with the rural heart of Formentera. Dry-stone walls, old paths, fig trees and scattered houses extend inland towards Sant Ferran and the road leading to La Mola. Small coastal settlements such as Ca Mari and the area around Es Arenals provide practical access without turning the whole shore into one continuous resort.

Traditional boathouses appear in places along the coast, reflecting the island's long relationship with small fishing craft. Restaurants serve local dishes that may include dried fish, seafood and produce from the island, but services differ widely between sections.

The Landscape

Es Migjorn is defined by repetition and change: pale sand, flat rock shelves, low dunes, juniper and open blue water. The coastline bends gently, revealing new bays rather than one single panoramic curve.

The island's southern exposure creates broad views and dramatic changes in light, especially late in the day. Posidonia leaves may collect naturally on the shore and help protect sand from erosion; they are part of the coastal system rather than ordinary rubbish. Migjorn's appeal lies in this living landscape and the freedom to find a section that feels personal.
