About Playa Llevant

The Vibe

Llevant feels broad and uncluttered, especially away from the southern access points. Visitors come for long walks, open space and a stronger sense of exposure to the Mediterranean. Summer still brings steady use, but the beach usually feels less concentrated than Ses Illetes across the peninsula. The open sand also makes it particularly appealing for long, uninterrupted walks.

The eastern orientation means wind and waves can differ sharply from conditions on the western side. When Llevant is rough, Ses Illetes may be calmer, and the reverse can happen with changing winds. Swimmers should judge the beach in front of them, follow flags and avoid assuming the two shores are interchangeable.

The Setting

About

Platja de Llevant covers the eastern side of Formentera's Es Trucadors peninsula, opposite Ses Illetes within the Ses Salines Natural Park. Its long white-sand shore and open eastern outlook create a wilder, quieter alternative to the island's most famous beach.

The Local Anchor

The beach lies inside the protected Ses Salines landscape. Dunes and a small band of vegetation separate the shore from salt ponds and low wetland ground, while wooden walkways guide visitors across sensitive areas.

Vehicle access to the natural park is controlled during the main season, with fees and capacity restrictions for cars and motorbikes. Cyclists and walkers can enter without the same charge, and public transport provides another option. The controls help reduce pressure on a peninsula with little space for roads and parking.

The Landscape

Llevant extends for well over a kilometre, with fine sand interrupted by occasional rocky patches that create smaller, more private-feeling sections. The coastline is low and almost entirely free of large buildings.

Northward, the beach reaches the tip of Es Trucadors opposite Espalmador. Southward, the shore continues towards Ses Canyes and the Es Pujols area. The landscape is defined by openness: bright sand, dune ridges, salt-influenced ground and a wide eastern horizon. Its appeal is not glamour but the freedom to walk through an almost continuous protected shore.
