About Playa es Cavallet

The Vibe

The beach has several moods along its length. Some areas remain quiet and nature-focused, while the southern end is internationally associated with LGBTQ+ beach culture, restaurants and a lively seasonal scene. Naturism is well established, but the beach is public and used by a broad mixture of visitors. The long shoreline rewards walking beyond the busiest access points.

Its exposed orientation means wind and waves may be stronger than at nearby enclosed coves. Swimmers should follow flags and avoid assuming that clear water is automatically calm. Walking the full beach requires sun protection and drinking water, while dune fencing must be respected because the vegetation is fragile.

The Setting

About

Es Cavallet is a long, open sandy beach on Ibiza's southeastern coast within the Ses Salines Natural Park. Protected dunes, salt-influenced vegetation and a long-established naturist tradition give it an identity that is both environmentally important and socially distinctive.

The Local Anchor

Torre de ses Portes stands near the southern end, overlooking the narrow channel towards Formentera. The defensive tower provides a historical endpoint for coastal walks and links Es Cavallet with the same salt-working landscape that shaped nearby Ses Salines.

Behind the shore, salt ponds and wetland habitats support birds and plants adapted to highly saline conditions. The natural park's protection extends beyond the visible beach to dunes, marine habitats and the wider Ibiza-Formentera channel. Visitors should use boardwalks and marked paths rather than cutting through restored areas.

The Landscape

A long band of fine pale sand runs beside rolling dunes, junipers and low Mediterranean vegetation. The coast is open and horizontal, with few structures interrupting the meeting of beach, sea and sky.

Posidonia leaves may collect naturally along the waterline and help reduce sand loss during storms. Farther inland, the salt landscape creates a second layer of water and light. Es Cavallet's strongest quality is this combination of freedom and ecological structure: an expressive social beach whose character still depends on dunes, wind, salterns and a protected living coastline.
