Playa de Les Marenys de Rafalcaid

Rafalcaid suits visitors who want space without feeling completely isolated. Families, local residents and occasional water-sport users share a broad shore where the pace is gentler than on central Gandia's busiest summer days. The beach can still become lively near the principal entrances, but the overall mood remains informal and unhurried.

The coast is open to wind, and conditions can change even when the sea looks clear. Swimmers should follow flags and lifeguard guidance, while kitesurfers and other craft users must remain inside marked areas. Natural shade is limited on the sand, so water and sun protection are essential for a long visit.

Marenys de Rafalcaid is Gandia's quieter southern beach, separated from the city's main resort frontage by the port and the mouth of the Serpis River. Fine golden sand, low dunes and a semi-urban neighbourhood give it a more relaxed character than the long, highly serviced Platja Nord.

Gandia's port lies immediately north and creates a clear physical divide between Rafalcaid and the main beach district. Beyond the harbour, the city offers the Ducal Palace of the Borgias, the historic centre and a strong food culture linked with the sea.

Gandia is widely associated with fideua, the noodle-based seafood dish developed by local fishing communities and now celebrated through restaurants and competitions. That maritime identity feels especially appropriate here, where the beach sits close to the working port rather than a purely tourist promenade.

The beach extends for roughly 800 metres and is broad enough to preserve a sense of openness. Fine sand meets a low line of dunes and vegetation, while traditional fishermen's houses and newer homes form a modest backdrop.

The Serpis reaches the Mediterranean nearby, adding a river-mouth landscape to the northern end. Visitors should avoid crossing sensitive dune areas or approaching drainage channels after heavy rain. The lasting impression is of Gandia at a softer scale: pale sand, a working harbour on the horizon and a beach neighbourhood that remains distinct from the larger resort to the north.
