About Playa Cala Forn

The Vibe

The setting is residential rather than remote, but the cove still feels enclosed and separate once you are on the beach. Summer brings a lively mix of children, couples and groups, particularly around the middle of the day. Outside the busiest weeks, the same curved shoreline becomes calmer. It suits visitors who want the atmosphere of a proper Mediterranean cove without committing to a difficult walk or an isolated stretch of coast.

The Setting

About

Cala Forn is a well-known family cove in the Les Tres Cales area, north of central L'Ametlla de Mar. Fine sand, a gentle entrance and usually sheltered-looking water give it an easygoing character, while the rocky sides attract snorkellers when visibility is good.

The Local Anchor

The nearby Sant Jordi d'Alfama headland provides the strongest historical link. Its coastal fortress recalls the strategic importance of this shoreline, which was watched and defended long before the surrounding holiday neighbourhoods appeared. The site carries medieval origins, while the standing fortification reflects later rebuilding and continued use of the position. Cala Forn also belongs to the wider maritime world of L'Ametlla de Mar, where the fishing port and seafood trade remain central to local identity. Following the coastal paths reveals how closely the cove is connected to Sant Jordi beach, Cala Vidre and the many smaller inlets that make this municipality unusually varied.

The Landscape

Cala Forn forms a rounded, naturally contained bay with golden sand at its centre and rocky walls on both sides. Mediterranean shrubs and pines soften the upper edges, while homes in Les Tres Cales sit farther back from the water. The beach shelves gradually in its central section, and the transparent shallows often reveal a mixture of sand, stone and darker underwater vegetation. Around the sides, submerged rocks add texture and marine interest but also call for sensible footwear and care when entering. The cove's shape reduces the feeling of an exposed open coast, although wind and swell can still alter conditions. From the sand, the view is concentrated on the mouth of the bay and the blue horizon beyond, creating the enclosed, balanced scenery that many visitors associate with L'Ametlla de Mar.
