About Playa del Raco del Conill

The Vibe

The cove attracts visitors seeking quiet, swimming and a clothing-optional setting rather than a conventional serviced beach. The atmosphere is generally respectful and unhurried, with fishing and snorkelling also associated with the area when sea conditions permit. Its popularity has grown, so seclusion should not be confused with guaranteed solitude in high summer.

Access is more demanding than at the urban beaches, and the mixed shore rewards suitable footwear. The surrounding rock can make the water look sheltered while still producing localised movement near the edges. Visitors should arrive prepared, respect signs and avoid relying on facilities being available.

The Setting

About

Raco del Conill is a secluded mixed sand-and-pebble cove on the northern coast of La Vila Joiosa, close to the boundary with Finestrat. Mountain slopes, difficult road access and an established naturist tradition give it one of the municipality's most independent beach identities.

The Local Anchor

Raco del Conill lies on the Colada de la Costa route, an old coastal livestock path now used as a walking itinerary between El Torres and La Cala. The route passes through this cove and connects the Torre de l'Aguilo area with the Roman funerary tower of Sant Josep.

La Vila Joiosa's fishing port, coloured old town and chocolate-making tradition are farther south. They provide the municipality's broader identity, while the cove itself remains defined by landscape and access rather than by nearby streets or restaurants.

The Landscape

A short strand of stones and sand is held between steep, scrub-covered slopes. The cove faces open Mediterranean water but feels visually enclosed by the surrounding terrain. There is limited flat ground behind the beach, reinforcing its compact and natural-looking form.

The contrast with nearby resort development is central to its appeal. From the waterline, rock, vegetation and sea dominate, while buildings remain less intrusive than at the main town beaches. Raco del Conill is best approached as a sensitive coastal enclave whose naturist culture, difficult access and rugged shape all form part of the same experience.
