Playa de Torres

Torres feels spacious and less compressed than a small cove. Families, walkers, anglers and water-sport users share a long strand where activity spreads across several access points. Seasonal services add convenience, but the beach retains a quieter atmosphere than Playa Ciutat.

The mixed shore can be stony at the waterline, and open-sea waves should be assessed before swimming. Marked nautical areas and water-sport activity require awareness, while the long beach rewards visitors who walk beyond the busiest central section.

Playa del Torres is a long mixed sand-and-pebble beach north of central La Vila Joiosa, close to the mouth of the River Torres. Its open shore, coastal paths and exceptional Roman funerary monument give it a character unlike the municipality's urban and southern beaches.

The Torre de Sant Josep is the defining landmark. This Roman funerary tower stands near the beach and is one of the most important surviving monuments of its type on the Iberian Peninsula. It anchors the landscape in the Roman history of the area rather than in the later coastal watchtower tradition.

The Colada de la Costa walking route begins or ends in this area and continues towards Raco del Conill and the Torre de l'Aguilo. Central La Vila Joiosa, with its fishing port, coloured houses and chocolate heritage, lies farther south.

Torres extends along a broad shore of pebbles, gravel and sand, backed by low development, trees and the river corridor. The coastline is open rather than tightly enclosed, creating long views towards neighbouring headlands.

The Roman tower provides a rare vertical landmark against an otherwise low coastal scene. River, beach, vegetation and archaeological heritage meet within a relatively spacious setting. The result is a beach where landscape and history are equally important: a working recreational shore with enough room for walking and a monument that gives the place unmistakable identity. The open form also allows sea breezes to be felt more directly than inside La Vila's compact southern coves.
