Playa Loira

Loira attracts families, residents from Marin and visitors staying along the Seixo coast, but it retains the feeling of a village beach rather than a large resort. The shoreline suits paddling, walking and watching boats move between coastal settlements.

At busier times the central sections feel sociable, while the ends of the beach offer a quieter outlook towards the rocks and harbour edges. The tide matters: as it changes, the band of sand and the distance to the water can look noticeably different.

Loira is a long, fine-sand beach in the parish of Seixo, on the southern shore of the Ria de Pontevedra. It sits in a semiurban setting where houses, the small harbour and green slopes meet a sheltered stretch of water. Its broad sand and sheltered water make it easy to enjoy.

Seixo is the immediate anchor. The parish has a strong maritime identity, and the nearby waterfront shows the practical relationship between the village and the ria. Small craft, fishing activity and harbour structures form part of the view rather than being hidden behind a purpose-built promenade.

Marin lies farther east, with its major port and town services, while Aguete and Mogor are close enough to combine with Loira on a coastal day. Across the water, the ria opens towards Tambo Island.

Loira runs for roughly 420 metres and has fine golden sand. Its mostly straight shoreline occupies a protected section of the ria, backed by a settled coastal strip and rising green land.

The water normally appears gentler than on the outer coast, yet wind can still funnel along the estuary and create short chop. Rocks at the edges add interest and help define the beach, while the harbour setting gives the landscape a lived-in quality.

This is not a wilderness beach. Its appeal comes from the balance between accessible sand, village life and the broad estuary view. For the best sense of place, walk beyond the central section and look back along the shore towards Seixo, where boats, houses and wooded hills layer together behind the water.
