About Playa de los Cnrabos

The Vibe

Los Carabos feels active, welcoming and closely integrated with daily city life. Families gather around the principal entrances, swimmers use the broad central water and walkers pass continuously along the promenade. Summer activity is high, but the beach remains more spacious than the compact coves around Melilla la Vieja.

The Alboran Sea can look calm while still responding quickly to easterly wind. Seasonal rescue services, accessible routes and nearby food businesses support a straightforward day. Visitors should follow beach flags and remain clear of any marked craft or service areas along the urban frontage.

The Setting

About Playa Los Carabos

Playa Los Carabos occupies a central section of Melilla's long urban shoreline between La Hipica and San Lorenzo. Its fine golden sand, family facilities and close promenade access make it one of the city's most frequently used neighbourhood beaches.

The Local Anchor

The central seafront is the main local anchor, linking residential neighbourhoods with the port, modernist centre and historic old city. Melilla's architecture and multicultural population give the promenade a character unlike the mainland Mediterranean resorts.

La Hipica lies to one side, while San Lorenzo and Hipodromo continue along the connected shore. Nearby restaurants combine Spanish tapas, fried fish and grilled seafood with flavours shaped by the city's North African setting.

The Landscape

Fine golden sand forms a broad urban curve beneath palms, paved promenade, apartments and public facilities. Breakwaters influence sections of the waterline, while the open Mediterranean remains visible beyond them.

The shore is almost level, making it useful for long walks and gentle cycling. The city remains close behind, but the beach's width prevents the buildings from dominating every view. Los Carabos is defined by centrality and movement: families, swimmers, promenade users and city life sharing one accessible stretch of Melilla's southern waterfront. The promenade remains active after sunset, when families, walkers and cafe visitors return to the seafront. Its central position also makes Los Carabos useful for visitors combining the beach with the modernist centre or a longer walk towards the port.
