Playa del Chaparral

El Chaparral feels spacious, relaxed and less concentrated than the beaches beside La Cala's town centre. Walkers, anglers, families and visitors from nearby residential areas spread along a long shore where access points are separated by woodland and low development.

The beach surface changes between sand, gravel and rock. Wind and short Mediterranean waves can make some sections better for walking or fishing than bathing, while calmer days favour snorkelling around the rocky margins. Services are concentrated near recognised entrances rather than available continuously along the full frontage.

Playa El Chaparral stretches along a semi-natural section of Mijas Costa between La Cala and the eastern approaches to Fuengirola. Its dark sand, rocky patches and pine-backed surroundings create a broad, quieter shoreline with the Senda Litoral running close behind.

The El Chaparral district is associated with pine woodland, residential development and the golf course inland from the coast. These features give the area a greener appearance than the denser urban strip around Fuengirola.

The Senda Litoral provides the strongest connection with neighbouring beaches. Eastward it leads towards El Charcon and La Cala; westward it continues towards El Faro and Fuengirola. Beach restaurants along the wider route serve grilled fish, sardine espetos and seafood.

Dark sand and gravel extend below stone pines, scrub, rocky outcrops and scattered buildings. The shoreline is irregular, with small points and shallow curves creating separate sections rather than one uniform beach.

The coastal road and residential areas remain nearby but are softened by vegetation and changes in level. Inland, golf fairways and wooded hills occupy the ground between the sea and Mijas's higher slopes. El Chaparral is defined by length and variety: a semi-urban beach where pine forest, rock, walking path and Mediterranean water remain more prominent than a formal promenade. Pine shade is available behind selected accesses, although the open beach remains fully exposed to the sun. The irregular shore also gives anglers several distinct rocky positions away from the principal family areas.
