About Playa de Port Bo
Port Bo is lively, photogenic and closely tied to the daily rhythm of Calella. Visitors come to sit on the sand, swim when the bay is settled and watch the waterfront change from a morning beach to an evening social space. Because the shore is small, it can become crowded quickly during summer.
The beach is better suited to a shorter visit than to anyone needing extensive space. Boats and access channels are part of the setting, while the coarse shore shelves into the water. Swimmers should remain alert to local conditions and avoid obstructing working or leisure craft.

The Setting
Port Bo is the historic heart of Calella de Palafrugell's waterfront. The small beach curves beneath the famous vaulted porches known as les Voltes, with fishing boats, restaurant terraces and white houses forming a compact village scene.
Les Voltes are the defining landmark. These arched former fishermen's shelters now frame restaurants and public space, preserving the architectural image most associated with Calella de Palafrugell.
Port Bo is also the setting for the annual Cantada d'Havaneres. The event fills the bay with traditional maritime songs and is one of the best-known cultural gatherings on the Costa Brava. Outside festival time, the same waterfront feels smaller and more intimate.
The beach sits within a sequence of short coves divided by low rock. Canadell lies just north, while Port Pelegri and El Golfet are reached by following the coast south. The cami de ronda provides changing views back towards the porches and village roofs.
Port Bo faces open Mediterranean water but gains some shelter from the shape of the coast. Easterly weather can still produce strong waves, and higher water leaves limited dry sand. Morning light reaches the beach early, while later sun warms the facades above the shore.
Its appeal is cultural as much as natural. Port Bo is not a remote cove; it is a preserved village waterfront where architecture, music, fishing history and beach life remain visible in one tightly framed bay.
