About Playa Cala Nova

The Vibe

Nova attracts a mixed crowd of families, walkers, younger visitors and surfers when waves develop. Restaurants and seasonal services make the beach comfortable, yet the long shore and wooded backdrop prevent it from feeling fully urban. Moving away from the main entrances usually reveals quieter sections. The beach also appeals to people who prefer a long shoreline walk rather than settling beside one concentrated resort access.

The open orientation requires respect. Waves, currents and shore break can appear when nearby coves remain calm, so flags and lifeguard guidance are particularly important. Inexperienced swimmers should not copy surfers or enter simply because others are in the water. Rocky areas towards the ends also become hazardous in swell.

The Setting

About

Cala Nova is a long, open beach just north of Es Canar, where pale sand faces the full eastern Mediterranean beneath pine-covered slopes. Its exposed position produces clearer surf potential and a wilder appearance than the neighbouring resort bay.

The Local Anchor

Es Canar lies immediately south, providing accommodation, shops, buses and seasonal boat connections. Punta Arabi and its well-known hippy market are also close, although Cala Nova retains a more natural visual character than the central resort beach.

Inland routes lead towards Sant Carles de Peralta, whose church and village streets provide a link with the rural northeast. The contrast between that quiet interior and the exposed coast is part of the area's appeal.

The Landscape

A broad ribbon of fine sand runs beneath low pine-clad ground, with rocky points shaping the ends. The bay is less enclosed than Cala Llonga or Cala Pada, leaving a wide horizon and allowing wind to reach the water directly.

Seagrass beds and sandy ground create changing bands of colour offshore, while natural Posidonia leaves may be deposited after rough conditions. Cala Nova's character depends on the sea state: tranquil and spacious on a calm morning, energetic and wave-driven when easterly weather arrives. That variation makes it one of Santa Eularia's most distinctive open-water beaches.
