About Playa Major
The beach feels energetic without relying on a resort promenade. Families, walkers and people drawn to more active water conditions share a shoreline long enough to spread out. The central access points are busiest in summer, while walking towards the ends usually brings more space.
Wind and waves are regular influences. On settled days Major supports swimming and long periods on the sand; in rougher conditions the same exposure creates stronger surf and a more dramatic shore. Visitors should follow flags and local conditions rather than assume easy water.

The Setting
Major is a broad 600-metre open beach on the Noalla coast, west of Pragueira and east of the A Lanzada headland. Fine sand, low development and direct exposure towards the Atlantic give it a spacious natural character. It suits visitors who prefer room and an open horizon.
Soutullo and Noalla form the local backdrop. Homes, campsites, small hotels and restaurants are scattered behind the coast, but development does not create a continuous urban wall. This preserves a looser, semi-rural feeling.
Pragueira lies to the east, while Foxos and the A Lanzada chapel are nearby to the west. The sequence makes Major a useful centre for exploring several beaches and viewpoints in one day. Portonovo remains within reach for a harbour walk or evening meal, but it feels distinct from the landscape here.
Major forms a long curve of fine pale sand facing west. Granite points define the ends, low vegetation backs the beach and the water opens towards Ons and the outer Ria de Pontevedra.
At lower tide, the strand becomes especially generous, creating a firm margin for walking and revealing more rock near the edges. Higher water narrows the beach but does not remove its sense of scale. Afternoon wind can cool the shore and increase surface chop.
The wider landscape is horizontal and uncluttered: sand, low green land, island silhouettes and a large sky. Major is not remote, yet the buildings behind rarely dominate the view from the waterline. Its identity comes from that breadth, offering a substantial beach experience with the Atlantic clearly present in both scenery and conditions.
