Playa Foxos

The shore feels open and purposeful. Visitors come for the sand and water, but many also walk towards the chapel, viewpoints and archaeological remains above the beach. This mixes beach life with sightseeing rather than the rhythm of a resort bay.

Foxos has room for families and walkers, although summer access points can become busy. Wind and swell are more noticeable than at sheltered beaches inside the ria. On calm days the beach can be inviting for swimming; when conditions strengthen, the same open aspect requires caution and respect for local warnings.

Foxos is a 350-metre open beach immediately south of the A Lanzada chapel headland. Fine sand, direct exposure to the Atlantic and the close presence of one of Sanxenxo's most important historic sites give the beach a distinctive identity within the Noalla coast.

Punta da Lanzada is the defining anchor. The Romanesque chapel of Nosa Senora da Lanzada stands on the headland, surrounded by traces of earlier settlement and burial. The site has watched over this coastline for centuries and remains linked to local traditions involving the sea and fertility.

The tiny Nosa Senora beach lies around the point, with Areas Gordas and A Lapa continuing north. Major and Pragueira are nearby to the south-east. Foxos belongs to a compact area where beaches, archaeology and coastal paths meet.

Foxos has fine sand and an open west-facing shoreline. The headland provides a strong northern boundary, while lower rock and vegetated land define the opposite end. Ons appears across the water in clear weather.

The tide changes the usable width and exposes rocky areas around the margins. At low water, the beach feels more connected to the headland and neighbouring shore; at high water, the sandy arc becomes tighter. Waves can wrap around the point and arrive at an angle, so conditions may vary across the beach.

The view combines natural and human landmarks without either overwhelming the other. Surf, granite and broad sky create the Atlantic setting, while the chapel gives the coastline a recognisable silhouette. Foxos is memorable because the beach and headland are experienced as one place rather than separate attractions.
