Playa Nuestra Senora da Lanzada

This is more a memorable coastal pause than a conventional beach-day destination. The sand is limited, the sea is open and the historic headland dominates the experience. Visitors often arrive for the chapel and viewpoints, then discover the small beach below as part of the same landscape.

When the tide allows, Nosa Senora offers an intimate place to sit close to the water. It can feel serene outside peak visiting hours, but the compact strand quickly becomes shared. Swell and wind can reach the shore directly, so bathing should never be judged by the beach's small size alone.

Nosa Senora is a 40-metre beach on the A Lanzada headland, beside the Romanesque chapel of the same name. Fine sand forms a tombolo-like strip between Foxos and Areas Gordas, within a landscape of archaeology, legend and open coastal scenery.

The chapel of Nosa Senora da Lanzada is the unmistakable anchor. Built in the late Romanesque period, it stands on a headland used and occupied across many centuries. Archaeological remains around the site include traces of an ancient settlement and burial ground, while local traditions link the rocks and sea with long-standing fertility rituals.

The headland also separates Foxos to the south from Areas Gordas and A Lapa to the north. A short walk therefore connects several beaches with very different shapes, all tied together by the chapel and the exposed point of land.

Nosa Senora has fine sand and an open position at the edge of the Atlantic-facing coast. Rock surrounds the small strand, and the chapel rises immediately above, giving the beach a dramatic vertical relationship with the headland.

The horizon reaches across open water towards Ons and the outer ria. Waves wrap around the point from different directions, and the tide determines whether the sandy area feels usable or extremely narrow. Wet rock around the margins requires care.

The landscape is most powerful when viewed as a whole: chapel, ancient site, granite, surf and neighbouring beaches. Nosa Senora does not compete through size or facilities. Its value lies in being a small piece of shore embedded in a place where Sanxenxo's natural and human history meet.
