Playa Torre del Mar

This end of Torre del Mar feels spacious, active and well organised. Families, walkers, cyclists and sports users share the beachfront, while restaurants and chiringuitos remain close to the principal entrances. The exceptional width of the beach helps activity spread even during high summer.

The sand is fine and dark, with a broad upper shore that supports play areas, exercise and seasonal services. Mediterranean conditions are often manageable, although wind can create short waves. Accessible routes, lifeguard provision and nearby parking make the beach practical for visitors staying throughout the day.

The western section of Playa Torre del Mar extends along the broad urban shoreline towards the Almayate side of the resort. Its fine dark sand, exceptionally wide promenade and extensive family facilities make it part of one of the Axarquia's most complete beach destinations.

Torre del Mar's long Paseo Maritimo is the main local anchor. It connects the western beach with the lighthouse, town centre, restaurants and the eastern sections towards Caleta de Velez. Public spaces, sports areas and summer events give the waterfront year-round importance.

The town developed from a coastal settlement associated with fishing, sugar production and the port activity of Velez-Malaga. Chiringuitos serve sardine espetos, fried fish, seafood and rice, preserving familiar Malaga food traditions within a modern resort setting.

Fine dark sand extends beneath a broad promenade lined with palms, gardens, apartments and hotels. The beach is unusually wide, so the buildings sit farther from the water than on many Costa del Sol urban shores.

Westward, the coast gradually approaches Almayate and less developed land. Eastward, the promenade continues through central Torre del Mar towards Caleta de Velez. Inland, the Axarquia hills rise beyond the flat coastal plain. This western section is defined by scale: open sand, long public promenade and distant mountain backdrop combined within one continuous urban beach. The western end also provides some of Torre del Mar's longest uninterrupted walking space, particularly before seasonal equipment occupies the upper beach. Sunset views remain open towards Almayate and the less developed coast beyond the resort.
