Playa Benajarafe

This part of Benajarafe feels spacious, local and quietly sociable. Families and residents use the recognised entrances, anglers favour the less crowded stretches and walkers follow the long waterline between the village and Valle Niza. Activity is spread along the coast rather than concentrated around one promenade.

The surface combines dark sand and gravel, and Mediterranean wind can produce moderate waves. The beach remains open and exposed, so conditions vary more noticeably than inside a compact cove. Services are available near selected accesses, while other sections retain a simpler and more natural atmosphere.

The eastern section of Playa Benajarafe lies between Valle Niza and the centre of Benajarafe on Velez-Malaga's western coast. Its long dark shore, low residential development and scattered chiringuitos create a relaxed beach where the built frontage remains less intense than Torre del Mar.

Benajarafe village provides the main local centre through its seafront homes, restaurants and traditional summer community. The Torre Moya watchtower, also known as Torre Gorda, stands inland from the coast and recalls the defensive network once used to observe maritime approaches.

Valle Niza and the Castillo del Marques lie east, while central Benajarafe continues west. Chiringuitos serve sardine espetos, grilled fish, fried seafood and rice, combining Malaga's coastal cooking with produce from the Axarquia interior.

Dark sand and gravel form a long, gently curving shore backed by low houses, open plots, vegetation and the coastal road. There is no continuous high-rise skyline, allowing the Mediterranean and inland hills to remain visible.

Eastward, the landscape opens towards Valle Niza and Almayate. Westward, development becomes more concentrated around Benajarafe's main frontage. The Axarquia hills rise close behind the narrow plain. This eastern section is defined by transition: village beach gradually meeting quieter coastal land without a sharp boundary. Several residential lanes descend towards the sand, but facilities and parking vary between entrances. The quieter eastern stretches are especially useful for walking, shore fishing and watching the coastline change towards Valle Niza.
