Playa Carracido (islas Cies)

The beach is more intimate than Rodas. Its limited sand encourages visitors to settle lightly, swim when conditions suit and continue exploring rather than treating it as a large all-day base. The clear-looking water, island setting and view towards San Martino create a strong sense of escape.

Carracido attracts walkers who have followed the trails beyond the main landing area. There is little separation between beach time and the wider nature visit: seabirds, rocky slopes and changing light remain part of the experience. Water temperatures can feel cool, and the sheltered appearance should not replace normal care around tides and rocks.

Carracido, commonly known as Nosa Senora or Praia do Chuco, is a small beach on Faro Island in the Cies archipelago. It lies south of Rodas and Bolos on the sheltered eastern shore, reached on foot through the protected landscape of the Atlantic Islands National Park.

The small chapel of Nosa Senora nearby gives the beach its best-known local name. Faro Island also carries the route towards the Cies lighthouse, one of the archipelago's classic walks, climbing above the sea for wide views of the Atlantic cliffs and the Ria de Vigo.

Rodas lies to the north, linking Faro with Monteagudo through the famous sandbar and causeway. San Martino Island sits across the narrow channel to the south and is not connected by the public walking network.

Carracido forms a modest crescent of fine pale sand below wooded and rocky slopes. The beach faces east, away from the full force of the Atlantic, with San Martino creating a dramatic island backdrop across the water.

At lower tide, more sand and rock appear around the edges; higher water makes the cove feel particularly compact. The sea is often transparent enough to reveal submerged stone and shifting sandy patches near shore, although visibility varies with weather.

There are no roads or urban buildings behind the beach. Access depends on boat services, walking routes and the park's visitor arrangements, and all waste must be taken away. Carracido's appeal comes from that protected simplicity: a small island shore where chapel, forest, granite and clear water meet within a national park.
