Playa Figueiras (islas Cies)

The beach feels natural, spacious and noticeably calmer than the busiest part of Rodas. Naturism is traditionally practised here, although the beach is shared respectfully by clothed and unclothed visitors. The atmosphere is relaxed, with most people arriving on foot carrying only what they need for the day.

Figueiras suits swimming when conditions are safe, reading beneath the dune edge and combining beach time with one of Monteagudo's walking routes. The water can be very clear, but it remains cold by Mediterranean standards and conditions may change with wind. Visitors should follow park guidance and remember that this is a protected landscape rather than a conventional serviced resort.

Figueiras is a long, pale-sand beach on Monteagudo, the northern island of the Cies archipelago. Reached by a short trail from the main landing area, it offers a quieter alternative to Rodas for day visitors.

The Cies Islands are part of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park. Monteagudo and Faro are linked by the Rodas sandbar and causeway, while the third island, San Martino, lies separate to the south.

The landing pier, information point and main trails are close enough to make Figueiras practical for a half-day stop. Walkers can continue towards the Alto do Principe viewpoint or the northern lighthouse routes, gaining wider views across the ria and towards Costa da Vela.

Figueiras extends for several hundred metres along the sheltered eastern side of Monteagudo. Fine white sand lies below dunes and coastal vegetation, with granite headlands enclosing the beach and clear water facing the Ria de Vigo.

The contrast with the island's western cliffs is striking. Figueiras occupies the gentler, protected side, while Atlantic waves strike steep rock only a short distance away. The Morrazo peninsula and mainland coast are visible across the water.

Access is by boat and footpath, and visitors must respect seasonal entry arrangements and park rules. There are no urban streets behind the sand, so everything brought to the beach must be carried responsibly. That simplicity is central to the experience: Figueiras feels like a real island beach, shaped by dunes, granite and sea rather than development.
