About Playa Nerga
The beach feels expansive without losing the easy rhythm of a family day by the sea. Summer brings swimmers, sunbathers and groups arriving from Cangas and the surrounding villages, yet the length of the sand allows people to spread out. The dune backdrop softens the built environment and gives the shore a more natural character than an urban beach. Calm-looking water can be inviting, but wind, tide and local conditions still matter, particularly near rocks or when the weather begins to change.

The Setting
Nerga is a 700-metre fine-sand beach in the O Hio parish of Cangas de Morrazo, within the protected Cabo Home coastal area. It forms part of a remarkable sequence of sand, dunes and pine-backed shoreline that also includes Vino and Barra. Although the peninsula faces the Atlantic, Nerga occupies a more protected curve and can have relatively calm water in suitable weather. Its scale and natural setting make it one of the stronger all-round beach choices in this part of Morrazo.
Nerga lies on the approach to Cabo Home, so the beach fits naturally into a day exploring the western end of the peninsula. The nearby routes lead towards the lighthouses, coastal viewpoints and the Castro do Facho area above the Costa da Vela. Hio village, with its celebrated stone cross, offers a cultural counterpoint inland. Cangas town provides the main harbour, shops and restaurants, but Nerga's immediate identity comes from the rural lanes and protected coast around O Hio.
A wide arc of pale sand is backed by dunes and pine woodland, with rocky ends marking the transition to neighbouring beaches. The entrance to the Ria de Vigo lies nearby, and the Cies Islands shape the wider seaward horizon. This mix of sheltered water, substantial dunes and island views gives Nerga a distinctive balance: it feels accessible and comfortable, yet the surrounding land still carries the scale and freshness of the outer Atlantic coast. The landscape is the main attraction, not an added backdrop.
