Playa o Adro

The atmosphere follows the rhythm of Bouzas. Walkers, families, runners and people meeting friends use the promenade throughout the day, while the sand becomes more active in warm weather. The beach is easy to combine with lunch, an evening drink or a slow circuit of the harbour.

Because O Adro is narrow, the tide strongly affects how much room remains above the water. It suits relaxed bathing in suitable conditions and short urban beach visits rather than anyone seeking dunes or seclusion. Sunset is a particular strength, with the view opening west towards the Cies Islands.

O Adro is a long, narrow urban beach beside the historic neighbourhood of Bouzas in Vigo. Fine sand follows the waterfront promenade for several hundred metres, with sheltered water on one side and stone streets, cafes and the working harbour landscape on the other. It is a civic shoreline as much as a conventional beach.

Bouzas is the defining anchor. Once an independent fishing town, it retains a compact old centre, maritime traditions and a strong neighbourhood identity within modern Vigo. The Church of San Miguel stands close to the waterfront, while bars and restaurants in the surrounding streets make seafood and evening tapeo part of the visit.

The marina and shipyard zone reinforce the working character of the coast. O Adro does not hide Vigo's industrial relationship with the sea; small craft, harbour walls and larger port activity remain part of the wider scene.

The beach runs for about 450 metres but is generally only around 10 metres wide. Its elongated, enclosed shape sits directly beside the Bouzas promenade, with fine sand and relatively sheltered estuary water.

Looking west, the ria broadens towards Alcabre, Samil and the Cies Islands. Looking east, the urban and port shoreline becomes more dominant. The tide can reduce the dry strip considerably, so the beach changes from a clear band of sand to a slim edge beside the walkway. The contrast is the key to O Adro: historic stone buildings, a lived-in promenade and a narrow tidal beach meet in one of Vigo's most distinctive neighbourhood settings.
