About Playa del Maricel
The surface can be less comfortable for bare feet than a fully sandy beach, so water shoes may be useful for some visitors arriving with children or planning a longer swim.
The beach usually feels calmer than the central waterfront of Les Cases, although summer brings local families and people staying in nearby properties. Easy access and a cared-for setting make it suitable for a straightforward day by the sea. Visitors should still check flags and seasonal lifeguard arrangements, as services and supervision are not identical throughout the year.

The Setting
Platja del Maricel is a quiet semi-urban beach north of Les Cases d'Alcanar, valued for a relaxed family atmosphere rather than a large resort scene. Sand mixed with rounded pebbles forms the shore, and rocky ends give the beach a defined, contained shape.
Maricel lies in Alcanar municipality, roughly a kilometre north of Les Cases d'Alcanar in the coastal area known as Les Oliveres. The fishing village remains the practical centre for restaurants, shopping and harbour life, while the N-340 corridor runs close to this stretch of shore. The beach therefore combines a quieter mood with relatively simple road access.
It is a distinct beach and should not be confused with Cala Llobeta or with Martinenca. A rocky division separates Maricel from Martinenca to the east, while the settlement and coastal properties behind it give Maricel its own semi-urban identity.
Rocky points mark both ends of the beach, and a small stone groyne near one side adds shelter and structure to the shoreline. The mixed sand-and-pebble surface is characteristic of the Alcanar coast, where low beaches alternate with rock rather than rising into high cliffs.
The background is developed but not densely urban. Vegetation, homes and transport infrastructure share the scene, with the Montsia range inland and the open Mediterranean ahead. Maricel's appeal is modest and practical: a local beach with clear boundaries, manageable scale and enough separation from the village centre to feel unhurried.
