Playa Aucanada

The atmosphere is calm, scenic and lightly organised. Families and local visitors settle beneath the trees or along the firmer shore, while snorkellers explore the mixed seabed in suitable conditions. The stones make it less comfortable for traditional sand play, but they also help keep the beach feeling spacious and understated.

Water shoes are useful on the beach and during entry. Although the island appears close, swimming towards it can expose people to depth, current and boat movement, so the crossing should never be treated casually. Flags and local guidance remain the safest basis for deciding where and when to enter.

Alcanada, also written Aucanada, is a distinctive pebble beach east of Port d'Alcudia, facing a small offshore island crowned by a white lighthouse. Large rounded stones, pine shade and clear-looking water create a very different experience from the long sandy beaches across Alcudia Bay.

The Alcanada lighthouse is the defining landmark. It stands on the low islet directly offshore and has guided vessels approaching Alcudia Bay since the nineteenth century. The island and light are part of the view rather than an ordinary supervised swimming destination.

Behind the coast, pine woodland and the Alcanada golf course extend towards Cap de Menorca. Port d'Alcudia lies to the west, with its marina, restaurants and services, while Alcudia's walled old town and the Roman remains of Pollentia provide a strong historical contrast inland.

Alcanada's shoreline combines pale boulders, smaller pebbles, rocky sections and patches of sandy seabed. Pines reach close to the coast and offer a green canopy in places, while the lighthouse island gives the bay a clear focal point.

The beach is low and open rather than enclosed by cliffs. Views stretch across the water towards the developed southern side of Alcudia Bay, but the immediate setting remains comparatively quiet. Alcanada appeals to visitors prepared for stones and simple facilities who value shade, transparent water and one of northern Mallorca's most recognisable maritime views.
