About Playa de Coco

The Vibe

Coco is active and local. Beach sports, family groups and swimmers share a relatively short stretch, so the atmosphere can feel lively even without very large crowds. It works well for a few hours by the sea, especially for visitors walking the Badalona waterfront rather than planning a secluded beach day.

The sea is usually approachable in settled weather, but the shoreline can develop a firm break when wind or swell increases. Visitors should follow flags and allow room around sports areas. The open sand is convenient, yet there is little sense of separation from the surrounding city.

The Setting

About

Platja del Coco is a compact urban beach on Badalona's southern waterfront, between the Placa dels Patins de Vela and Carrer Cervantes. At about 170 metres long and roughly 60 metres wide, it offers a broad patch of golden sand close to sports areas, the seafront promenade and the city's former industrial shore.

The Local Anchor

The long outline of the Pont del Petroli is the strongest nearby landmark. Built as an industrial unloading pier and later adapted as a public symbol of the seafront, it represents Badalona's transition from factory coast to civic waterfront.

The historic Anis del Mono factory also belongs to this industrial story, while the Rambla and city centre lie within walking distance to the north. Together, these places explain why Coco feels different from a resort beach: the sand is part of an urban landscape shaped by production, transport and renewal.

The Landscape

The beach sits beside a wide promenade and open paved spaces used for skating, walking and sport. Railway lines and city buildings remain close behind, while the Mediterranean horizon gives the foreground a much simpler scale.

Coco's width is more striking than its length. There is enough upper sand for activity, but the ends arrive quickly and merge into neighbouring beach sections. Storms and coastal works can alter the profile from season to season.

The wider view includes port structures to the south and Badalona's central seafront to the north. This is a modern urban beach built into a working metropolitan coast, where industrial landmarks, local recreation and the open sea remain visible together.
