About Playa d'Aiguablava
The beach has a bright, family-oriented atmosphere. The gently shelving entry and protected shape often appeal to children and less confident swimmers when conditions are calm. Kayaks, paddleboards and small boats add activity, while waterfront restaurants make it easy to combine the beach with lunch.
Its fame means space is limited in summer. Parking fills early, the sand becomes crowded and boat traffic can reduce the feeling of seclusion. Arriving in the morning or outside peak season gives a better sense of the cove's natural beauty. Swimmers should still follow flags and remain clear of marked channels.

The Setting
Aiguablava is a small sheltered bay on Begur's southern coast, known for fine pale sand and clear blue-green water framed by pine-covered cliffs. At around 80 metres long, it is beautiful but compact, and its popularity can make it one of the busiest coves in the municipality.
Fornells and the surrounding Begur coastline provide the local anchor. Small harbours, villas and old paths connect Aiguablava with Platja Fonda and the neighbouring coves.
Begur town sits inland below its castle ruins, with stone streets and Indiano houses providing a strong cultural contrast to the beach. The old road and coastal paths offer walking alternatives for visitors who want to see the bay from above.
Aiguablava faces northeast within a tight bay. Fine sand reflects light into the shallow water, creating the colour that gives the beach its name. Rocky headlands and pines close the view, while the open sea appears only through the narrow mouth.
The cove's shape reduces some wave energy but cannot remove the effects of wind or passing boats. The rocky sides are attractive for snorkelling when the water is settled and visibility is good.
From the higher paths, the bay appears almost circular, with pale sand at its base and layered green slopes around it. Aiguablava's appeal is immediate and visual, but respecting its limited capacity and busy summer access is essential to enjoying it.
