About Playa de s'Abanell

The Vibe

The beach feels spacious, energetic and family-oriented. Hotels, apartments, campsites and seasonal services bring steady summer activity, while its length allows visitors to walk beyond the busiest areas. The northern section is closely tied to the promenade and town; farther south, the shoreline opens towards the river delta.

S'Abanell is exposed to storms and changing Mediterranean swell. Its sand width varies through the year, and the seabed may deepen more quickly than expected. Swimmers should use supervised areas, follow flags and keep away from river outflow after heavy rain.

The Setting

About

S'Abanell is Blanes's great southern beach, extending for more than two kilometres from Sa Palomera towards the mouth of the River Tordera. It is one of the longest beaches on the Girona coast, with coarse golden sand and a wide urban-resort frontage.

The Local Anchor

Sa Palomera is the northern anchor and the symbol of Blanes as the gateway to the Costa Brava. From its steps, the contrast between the central town beach and the long straight line of S'Abanell is immediately clear.

Behind the beach lies Blanes's main holiday district, with accommodation, restaurants and family services. The older fishing port and town centre are within walking distance from the northern end, allowing visitors to combine the resort seafront with a more traditional Catalan town.

The Landscape

S'Abanell averages only a few dozen metres in width despite its great length, so storms and seasonal erosion can change its appearance considerably. The shore runs southwest in a nearly continuous line towards the Tordera, with no cliffs to block wind or views.

The river mouth creates a more natural landscape at the southern end, where sand, low vegetation and freshwater influence replace much of the built promenade. This area should be approached carefully because channels, currents and water quality can change after rain.

The defining pleasure is scale. A walk along S'Abanell moves from busy seafront life to a broader delta horizon, while Sa Palomera remains visible behind as the rocky marker between two very different sides of Blanes.
