About Playa de l'Astillero

The Vibe

This is a sociable, energetic beach rather than a hidden cove. Summer days bring families, couples, beach games and people moving between the sand, picnic areas and seasonal xiringuitos. The generous width provides room to spread out, although the central sections can feel busy during the main holiday period.

The sea is open to Mediterranean weather, so conditions are not always as placid as the wide horizon suggests. Wind can raise short waves, and swimmers should follow flags and lifeguard instructions. Away from the water, the level shore suits relaxed walking and long afternoons in the sun.

The Setting

About

Platja de l'Astillero is the lively resort beach of Malgrat de Mar, stretching in front of the town's hotel district. Broad sand, a long open shoreline and easy access from accommodation make it a practical choice for families and visitors who want facilities close at hand without leaving the beach atmosphere behind.

The Local Anchor

Malgrat's hotel zone sits immediately behind the beach, while the older town centre lies inland around its church, narrow streets and local shops. This gives Astillero two identities: an accessible holiday beach and a shoreline still connected to an established Maresme town.

La Pilona is the most distinctive local landmark. The offshore platform is a surviving reminder of the iron-loading structure once linked to mines inland. It stands alone in the water and gives the beach a recognisable silhouette, particularly in the softer light of morning or evening.

The Landscape

Astillero forms part of Malgrat's long, straight coast, with golden sand facing southeast across the Mediterranean. There are no enclosing cliffs, so the view feels broad and bright, and the weather can move freely across the shore.

The railway and town development remain close, but the beach's scale prevents the setting from feeling cramped. Looking north, the coast continues towards Santa Susanna; southward, Malgrat Centre and the Tordera delta lie beyond.

The beach is best understood as a spacious, well-used urban-resort strand. Its character comes from the combination of open sea, easy services, Malgrat's holiday energy and the solitary industrial landmark of La Pilona offshore.
