Playa de Llevant-Les Caletes

This is easily the liveliest part of Santa Susanna's waterfront. Families, hotel guests, sports users and evening walkers share a long, open beach with seasonal services close at hand. The scale absorbs many visitors, although sections nearest the largest access points become busy during peak summer weeks.

The Mediterranean here is exposed rather than lagoon-like. Onshore wind can raise waves quickly, and the coarse beach profile may deepen close to the water. Bathers should follow flags and keep away from channels used for water activities.

Llevant-Les Caletes is Santa Susanna's main holiday beach sector, extending from the Malgrat de Mar boundary to the Riera de Santa Susanna. Long stretches of broad, coarse golden sand run beside the hotel district, while rocky divisions near the south-west create the smaller pockets that give Les Caletes its name.

The beachfront hotel district is the immediate anchor and contains much of Santa Susanna's visitor accommodation. The town's railway station also makes the beach accessible without a car and connects it directly with Barcelona and the northern Maresme.

The old centre lies inland, separated from the resort frontage by transport routes and former agricultural land. Historic farmhouses and watchtowers show that Santa Susanna existed long before modern tourism reshaped the shore.

Llevant stretches along the north-eastern part of the municipality beside Malgrat. Towards the south-west, rock structures break the beach into smaller sections known as Les Caletes before the shore reaches the riera.

The railway and hotels remain close behind, so the landscape is clearly developed. Even so, the broad horizon, long sand and open light create a strong sense of space from the waterline. The Riera de Santa Susanna forms the natural division from Les Dunes.

Weather and storms can change the width of individual sections, particularly around rocky breaks and drainage channels. Llevant-Les Caletes is best for visitors who want convenience and activity, while the neighbouring Les Dunes sector offers a more open agricultural backdrop.
