About Playa los Barquicos-Cocones
This is the most immediately social section of the Carboneras shoreline. Residents cross from nearby streets, children use the open sand and visitors move between the water, promenade and cafes without needing a car. Showers, foot-washing points, toilets and activity areas support a full beach day, while the broad width prevents the shore from feeling cramped too quickly. The mood is informal and local, especially in the evening when the promenade becomes as important as the sand. It offers convenience and animation rather than the quiet of an isolated cala.

The Setting
Playa de Los Barquicos-Cocones is the central town beach of Carboneras, a sandy urban frontage approximately 600 metres long and around 70 metres wide. Its calm-water reputation, promenade access and concentration of services make it one of the easiest local beaches for families and visitors staying in the town centre.
The historic centre of Carboneras sits directly behind the beach. The Castillo de San Andres, built to defend the coast and encourage settlement, is within a short walk, as are the tourist office, restaurants and everyday shops. Offshore, Isla de San Andres is the town's most recognisable natural landmark and a constant point of reference from the promenade. The nearby fishing tradition continues to shape local menus, making grilled fish, seafood rice and the area's red prawns a natural continuation of a day on Los Barquicos-Cocones.
Golden-toned sand occupies a sheltered part of the bay, with the small island offshore and the town arranged closely behind the promenade. Harbour structures help define one end of the frontage, while the coast opens towards El Ancon in the other direction. The landscape is clearly urban, but the dry hills surrounding Carboneras and the rocky island prevent it from feeling anonymous. Water, town and desert-coloured slopes remain visible in the same view. This compact combination explains the beach's strong local identity: it is not simply near Carboneras, but forms part of the town's central public space and daily coastal life.
