About Playa el Calon
El Calon is quiet without being completely undeveloped. Houses and seasonal facilities sit close enough for convenience, while the long pebble frontage leaves room to find a less occupied section outside peak weekends. Walking on the rounded stones is different from crossing fine sand, and water shoes can make entry more comfortable. The beach can experience moderate wave action because it faces an open stretch of coast, although settled days may be much gentler. Its appeal is strongest for visitors who enjoy a simple local shoreline and do not require a polished resort promenade.

The Setting
Playa de El Calon is a semi-urban beach in a small coastal settlement south of Villaricos, within the municipality of Cuevas del Almanzora. Approximately 500 metres long and 25 metres wide, it has a dark shore of rounded stones and larger cobbles, with generally low occupation and direct road access.
The small settlement of El Calon supplies the immediate identity, with road access and summer services including toilets, shaded areas and seasonal safety provision. Villaricos lies a short distance north and provides a wider choice of restaurants, harbours and shops, while Cuevas del Almanzora is inland. The beach sits within a municipal coast known for varied calas, former mining activity and fishing villages. That wider context matters because El Calon is not a famous standalone attraction; it is one part of a sequence of understated coastal communities along the Levante Almeriense.
The shoreline follows a shallow curve below low, dry slopes and scattered housing. Dark cobbles and gravel create a strong textural foreground, while the Mediterranean opens directly to the east. There are no large dunes or high resort blocks, and the modest development leaves long views along the coast. Rocky points interrupt the line of the beach and help distinguish smaller bathing sections. The arid land, sparse vegetation and exposed water give El Calon a clear eastern-Almeria character. It is a landscape of simple contrasts: rough stone against smooth sea, small settlement against open horizon, and low hills descending gradually towards the shore.
