About Playa Costa Tranquila

The Vibe

The cove has an intimate, local atmosphere. It is used mainly by nearby residents and visitors staying in the surrounding streets, so the pace is slower than on the principal resort beaches. The limited space means it can still feel occupied on summer mornings, but turnover is gentle and there is little through-traffic.

Costa Tranquila suits a short swim, a peaceful hour by the water or a simple beach stop rather than a full day built around extensive facilities. The bay is compact, and the water often looks protected by the surrounding coast, although actual sea conditions should always guide decisions. Shade and services are limited compared with the central promenade.

The Setting

About Costa Tranquila - La Fernanda

Costa Tranquila, also known locally as La Fernanda, is a small residential cove in San Juan de los Terreros on the Pulpi coast. Its short shoreline, sheltered position and direct neighbourhood access create a quiet alternative to the larger and busier beaches around Mar Serena and Mar Rabiosa.

The Local Anchor

San Juan de los Terreros provides the nearest restaurants, shops and evening activity. The settlement is watched over by the eighteenth-century castle on the headland, built in 1764 as part of the coastal defence system and now one of the clearest landmarks on this northern edge of Almeria.

The wider coast is also known for Isla de Terreros and Isla Negra offshore, protected as a natural monument. Their presence gives the beaches around the village a strong maritime identity and supports interest in snorkelling, diving and the local seabed.

The Landscape

The official bathing area is very short, measuring only about fifty metres, and sits between low rocky edges and residential development. Sand and small stones gather within the protected curve, while ochre and pale coastal rock frame the water.

Behind the cove, houses occupy the dry, low slopes without creating a high-rise skyline. Views open towards the Terreros headland and the Mediterranean beyond, depending on the exact position along the shore. The appeal is modest and specific: a small neighbourhood beach where rock, water and nearby homes meet closely, giving La Fernanda a contained character distinct from the broad promenade beaches farther west.
