About Playa la Higuerica
La Higuerica feels open, relaxed and focused on straightforward beach time. Families spread across the wide upper shore, walkers join the coastal trail and swimmers use a frontage that remains free from dense seafront development. High-season use can be considerable, yet the beach's width prevents immediate crowding.
The shore faces the Mediterranean and is exposed to changing wind and waves. Fine sand gives a softer entry than the rocky beaches east of Aguilas, while the open shape can produce more movement during unsettled weather. Seasonal services and recognised access points make the cove practical without turning it into an urban resort.

The Setting
Playa La Higuerica lies within Aguilas's Cuatro Calas protected landscape between Calarreona and La Carolina. Its broad fine sand, open water and low dry hills create a natural family beach with more room than the smaller coves around the provincial boundary.
The protected Cuatro Calas landscape provides the strongest identity. Its 222-hectare coastal strip combines ramblas, salt-tolerant plants, esparto-covered relief and sandy coves close to the Almeria boundary.
A signed walking route links La Higuerica with Calarreona, La Carolina and Los Cocedores. The route reveals geological layers, small viewpoints and the transition between Murcia's dry coastal habitats and the neighbouring Andalusian shore.
Fine golden-grey sand forms a broad curve below low cliffs, scrub and open ground. The rear of the beach remains largely natural, with roads and parking kept away from the immediate waterline.
Calarreona lies east, while La Carolina and Los Cocedores continue west. The horizon is fully open to the Mediterranean, and the surrounding slopes carry sparse vegetation shaped by heat, wind and limited rainfall. La Higuerica is defined by breadth and setting: a substantial sandy beach held within one of Aguilas's most valuable protected landscapes. The beach's generous upper shore also makes it practical for families carrying shade and picnic equipment, provided visitors keep access routes and protected vegetation clear. Early arrival also reduces parking pressure.
