Playa Cala Tia Antonia

The atmosphere is close-knit and informal. Nearby residents walk down with towels and beach bags, while children use the shallow edge when the sea is settled. Because the cove is only around sixty metres long, even a modest number of visitors can make it feel lively during peak summer periods.

It works best for a short, uncomplicated visit. There is little need to cross a large beach or navigate a busy resort frontage, but there is also less space and fewer services than at Mar Serena. The rocky sides offer visual interest, though care is needed around uneven surfaces and changing water conditions.

Cala de la Tia Antonia is a very small sandy cove within the residential coastline of San Juan de los Terreros. Its short golden shore and generally protected position make it a familiar family bathing place rather than a destination built around large-scale facilities or a long promenade.

The cove belongs to the chain of small beaches around San Juan de los Terreros, where residential streets sit between the sea, the castle headland and the dry hills of Pulpi. Restaurants and shops are concentrated around the main village beaches rather than directly behind every small cala.

The eighteenth-century Castillo de San Juan de los Terreros remains the main cultural landmark. From its headland, the coast, village and offshore islands can be viewed together, showing how these small coves fit into the wider settlement.

Golden sand fills a narrow break between low sandstone and rocky edges. The official protected bathing length is about sixty metres, so the scale is intimate and the shoreline changes visibly with wave action and seasonal movement of sand.

Low houses occupy the land behind the cove, while the Mediterranean horizon opens beyond its mouth. Offshore, Isla de Terreros and Isla Negra form part of the wider coastal scene around the village, although their visibility varies from beach to beach. Cala de la Tia Antonia is attractive because it is simple and contained: a small pocket of sand held between rock and neighbourhood streets, with no attempt to imitate the scale of the larger beaches nearby.
