Playa Mar Serena

Mar Serena has a relaxed but busy summer atmosphere. Families value the gradual entry and the space available along the longer frontage, while walkers and evening visitors use the promenade behind the beach. Seasonal services and nearby businesses make it suitable for spending most of the day by the water.

The sea often appears calmer than at neighbouring Mar Rabiosa, although wind and changing conditions still affect the bay. Mornings are usually the easiest time to find a quieter position. By late afternoon, the beach becomes more social as residents and holidaymakers return after the strongest heat.

Playa Mar Serena is a broad urban beach in San Juan de los Terreros, named for the generally sheltered character of its shallow water. Its golden sand, promenade, family facilities and central position make it one of the most popular and practical beaches on the Pulpi coastline.

The Pichirichi rock marks the eastern boundary with Mar Rabiosa and acts as a natural breakwater. It has also served practical roles in the past, including use as a loading point for minerals. Its fossils, pools and unusual shape make it one of the village's most recognisable coastal features.

The castle above San Juan de los Terreros and the offshore islands provide the wider local identity. Restaurants around the village serve grilled fish, rice, shellfish and tapas, linking the modern holiday beach with the maritime traditions of the Almeria coast.

The officially protected frontage extends for roughly 700 metres. Golden sand follows a gentle curve beneath a long promenade, with low-rise housing and visitor services behind rather than tall hotel blocks.

The bay looks towards Isla de Terreros and Isla Negra, both protected for their natural value. Dry hills rise inland, including the Sierra del Aguilon and other ridges that separate the coast from the interior of Pulpi. Mar Serena's landscape is more developed than the small coves farther east, but it retains a strong sense of place through its island views, pale sand and the rock formations dividing the neighbouring beaches.
