About Playa Calarreona
Calarreona feels open, informal and family-friendly, with more services than the neighbouring coves but none of the dense urban frontage found in central Aguilas. Visitors arrive for swimming, walking and time in a semi-natural setting, while the broad shore absorbs summer activity relatively well.
The beach has fine grey sand and an open Mediterranean aspect. Wind and waves can be more noticeable than inside a sheltered town bay, and the waterline may change after rough weather. Seasonal facilities, parking and a nearby hostel or camping presence make this the easiest base for exploring the surrounding coast.

The Setting
Playa Calarreona lies west of Aguilas within the protected Cuatro Calas landscape near the provincial boundary with Almeria. Its broad grey-golden sand, easy road access and dry volcanic-looking surroundings make it the largest and most practical beach in this natural group.
The Paisaje Protegido de Cuatro Calas is the essential local reference. The protected strip combines sandy coves, low cliffs, ramblas, salt-tolerant vegetation and dry hills dominated by esparto near the Murcia-Almeria border.
The signed coastal trail links Calarreona with La Higuerica, La Carolina and Los Cocedores. Aguilas lies several kilometres east and provides the nearest full range of shops, restaurants and cultural services.
Grey-golden sand forms a wide crescent below low, arid slopes and sparse development. Rocky ends and exposed geological layers give the beach a more rugged frame than the urban bays around Aguilas.
Westward, the protected trail continues through smaller coves towards the provincial boundary. Eastward, the coast returns towards Matalentisco and town. The inland terrain is dry, open and strongly Mediterranean, with scrub rather than trees. Calarreona is defined by accessibility within nature: a substantial serviced beach surrounded by the distinctive semi-desert landscape of Cuatro Calas. The Albergue Juvenil de Calarreona and nearby seasonal facilities give the beach a practical base for walkers following the protected coastal route. Morning usually offers the coolest conditions for the exposed trail and beach approaches.
