Playa es Grau

The pace is unhurried and village-led. Children wade across the broad shallows, small boats rest near local moorings and walkers move between white houses, the beach and park trails. Es Grau feels lived in rather than designed as a resort, even when summer brings many day visitors.

The gradual seabed encourages long paddles, but wind across the open bay can carry inflatables away from the shore and produce short chop. Boat movements are concentrated around recognised channels and mooring areas, while the shallows can hold seagrass that shifts with weather. Families gain most by choosing a fixed landmark on land and checking drift rather than relying on the apparent stillness of the water.

Es Grau is a shallow sandy bay beside a former fishing village on Menorca's east coast, at the edge of the S'Albufera des Grau Natural Park. Calm-looking water, low dunes and immediate contact with the lagoon landscape give it a singular place among Menorca's family beaches.

S'Albufera des Grau is the local anchor and the core area of Menorca's biosphere reserve. Trails and observation points introduce the lagoon, wetlands, woodland and birdlife behind the coast, creating a complete nature visit within walking distance of the sand.

Illa d'en Colom rises offshore and shapes the bay's eastern view. The village provides places to eat and a small maritime atmosphere, while Mao lies within an easy drive for markets, museums and the great natural harbour.

The beach forms a soft arc backed by low dunes and modest settlement. A short walk towards the village reveals simple waterfront houses and small boat activity that reinforce the bay's lived-in character. Its sand is less dazzling than some southern coves, but the muted colours suit the wider park: pale shore, green scrub, shallow blue water and the darker profile of the island offshore.

Es Grau is best understood as a connected coastal system. Lagoon water, dunes, beach, village and sheltered bay all sit close together. The result is not dramatic cliff scenery but an unusually complete landscape where bathing, walking and wildlife observation can share the same day.
