Playa Cala Alcaufar

The atmosphere is intimate, residential and quietly social. Children paddle from the sand, neighbours use the small waterfront structures and visitors move between shaded lanes and the cove. Space is limited, so the beach feels busiest around the easiest access while the outer rocks attract people looking for a more independent swim.

The inlet opens towards the southeast and can receive wave movement when wind approaches from that direction. Boat ramps and moorings remain working spaces, not extra sunbathing platforms, and the rocky sides become slippery where spray reaches them. A cooler freshwater flow is sometimes noticeable within the cove, creating local changes in temperature near the shore.

Cala Alcaufar is a narrow southeast Menorcan cove where a small sandy beach meets a traditional seaside settlement of white houses, jetties and boat shelters. Its gently curved inlet and long-standing connection with Sant Lluis families give it the feel of an old summer village rather than a modern resort.

Torre d'Alcaufar stands near the mouth of the inlet and provides the defining landmark for the wider coast. The defensive tower watched approaches to southeast Menorca and now anchors a walking landscape of scrub, stone and sea.

Sant Lluis lies inland and supplies markets, bakeries and the municipality's whitewashed centre. The historic Cami de Cavalls crosses this area, offering a route towards Punta Prima and other southeastern coves without turning Alcaufar itself into a busy excursion base.

The beach occupies the sheltered head of a slender bay bordered by low limestone and compact village buildings. Traditional landing places sit close to the water, while vegetation and white facades soften the rocky frame.

Beyond the inner cove, the view opens towards islets and the tower. Alcaufar's beauty comes from continuity between settlement and sea: houses, steps, boats and sand arranged around one shared inlet. It is neither wild nor heavily commercial, but a lived-in coastal place where Menorca's maritime traditions remain visible at everyday scale.
