About Playa del Varador
Varador is social, active and unmistakably urban, with the fullest range of beach activity on Mataro's central waterfront. Families, groups of friends, swimmers and beach-sport users share the shore, especially around the central access points. Its width usually provides breathing room, but summer weekends can still feel busy.
The beach is also the main focus for assisted bathing and accessible facilities during the supervised season. Visitors should check local operating times rather than assuming every service is available year-round. The sea can develop moderate waves and currents, and the harbour entrance affects the character of the western end.

The Setting
Platja del Varador is Mataro's principal central beach, set immediately east of the marina and close to the city centre. Broad sand, extensive seasonal services and easy promenade access make it the most convenient choice for many first-time visitors.
The Port of Mataro is the defining anchor. Leisure craft, fishing boats, restaurants and the marina promenade sit beside the beach, creating an easy link between time on the sand and an evening meal by the water.
The city centre is within reach beyond the railway, with the Basilica of Santa Maria, traditional shopping streets and Modernista architecture adding depth to a beach visit. Mataro's industrial past and present-day city life remain visible rather than being hidden behind a resort facade.
Varador forms a wide, open arc of coarse golden sand. The marina breakwater closes part of the western view, while the shoreline continues east into Callao and Sant Simo.
The coastal railway and built seafront are close, but the beach is large enough for the horizon to dominate once visitors move towards the water. Sand levels can change after storms, and the waterline may shift considerably between calm periods and rougher weather.
Varador's appeal is practical and urban: a substantial bathing beach beside a working marina, connected by promenade to the rest of Mataro's coast and backed by a city with its own history, culture and daily rhythm.
