Playa Cala Margarida

The atmosphere is intimate and local. Visitors come for a short swim, snorkelling in calm water or a pause during the coastal walk, while residents and small craft continue to shape the cove's daily life. There is very little space for large groups.

The shore is stony and access involves steps, so footwear is useful. Boats may occupy part of the water and beach, and swimmers should keep clear of launching areas. Cala Margarida is better for visitors comfortable with a compact rocky setting than for families needing broad sand and extensive services.

Cala Margarida is a tiny traditional cove on the northern edge of Palamos, close to the harbour but hidden below a line of old fishermen's houses. Pebbles, rock and small boat ramps create a shoreline that feels more like a maritime hamlet than a conventional beach.

Palamos harbour lies immediately south and provides the cove's wider context. Fishing, boat repair and marina activity are visible nearby, while the town's fishing museum and old quarter can be combined easily with a visit.

The cami de ronda continues north towards La Fosca and the castle ruins of Sant Esteve de Mar. This route places Cala Margarida at the transition between the urban port and Palamos's more scenic northern bays.

White houses and old boat shelters cluster tightly above the water, leaving only a narrow pebble beach between buildings and sea. Rocky sides frame the cove, and the open horizon appears beyond the small entrance.

The protected shape often creates calmer-looking water than the coast outside, although wind and passing boats can still disturb the surface. Submerged rock around the edges provides interest for snorkelling when visibility is good.

Cala Margarida's appeal is cultural as much as natural. It preserves the appearance of a small fishing enclave within walking distance of a busy town. Visitors should respect private homes, keep noise low and avoid blocking boat access. The cove is best experienced briefly and quietly, as part of the harbour-to-La Fosca coastal walk.
