Playa Area da Barca-Covelo

The atmosphere is relaxed, practical and local. Covelo is small enough to feel intimate but established enough to work for a straightforward summer visit. Families, residents and people staying nearby share the sand, especially when the tide provides its widest margin.

The curved pier helps soften the water and gives the beach a harbour-like quality. It is a comfortable place for paddling, swimming in suitable conditions or sitting with a view across the ria. Visitors looking for a long walk on sand may prefer Lano-Samieira, while Covelo suits a shorter, more contained beach stop.

Covelo is a compact beach in Samieira, on Poio's northern shore of the Ria de Pontevedra. Fine golden sand curves beside a small local pier, while houses and green slopes rise behind the waterfront. Its sheltered position and easy connection with the coastal road make it a convenient village beach.

Samieira is the immediate anchor. The parish stretches along a sequence of small beaches, coves and residential waterfronts between Combarro and Raxo. Fishing, shellfish gathering and small-boat activity remain visible parts of the coast.

Combarro lies east along the road, with its historic granite houses and waterfront granaries. Raxo is west, offering a busier harbour and a more urban seaside setting. Covelo sits between them and retains a quieter village identity.

The beach is roughly 80 to 100 metres long, with fine sand and a sheltered half-shell shape. The small curved pier defines one edge and contributes to the generally protected feel of the water.

The tide strongly influences the width of the strand. Lower water opens more sand and reveals the base of the rocks; higher water draws visitors closer to the built edge. The ria usually appears calm, although wind and passing boats can create surface movement.

Tambo Island and the layered hills around the estuary form the wider view. Close by, the landscape is a blend of stone walls, homes, vegetation and maritime structures. Covelo is not an isolated natural beach, but its balance of accessible sand, shelter and village life makes it a useful and appealing stop on the Poio coast.
