About Playa Lano

The Vibe

This is one of Poio's better choices for visitors who want room to walk and settle away from the busiest access points. Families, swimmers and local residents use the beach, but its length helps distribute activity. The atmosphere is relaxed and more spacious than at the municipality's small harbour coves.

The sand is fine and golden, becoming coarser near the waterline in places. The ria setting usually provides gentler bathing conditions than the open Atlantic, although wind can still create chop. The beach works well for a full day, especially for people who appreciate a natural-looking shore with services nearby rather than a dense resort frontage.

The Setting

About

Lano-Samieira is a long sheltered beach on Poio's western coast, where two named sections form a single continuous stretch of sand. It lies in a more rural setting than Combarro or Raxo, with green slopes, scattered homes and the Ria de Pontevedra opening across the view.

The Local Anchor

The parish of Samieira provides the immediate anchor. The parish occupies a green section of coast between Covelo and Raxo, with small beaches, local lanes and a continuing relationship with fishing and shellfish gathering.

The Poio coastal path helps connect this shoreline with neighbouring coves and viewpoints. Combarro lies farther east, while Raxo provides a busier harbour and restaurant scene to the west. Lano-Samieira offers a quieter midpoint between them.

The Landscape

The combined beach extends for about 400 metres and forms a gentle half-shell curve. Fine golden sand dominates, with coarser grains and small stones appearing near the tide line.

The coast is sheltered inside the Ria de Pontevedra. Tambo Island and the opposite hills shape the horizon, while vegetation and low development back the beach. At low water, the strand widens and the two sections read as one continuous landscape; at high water, small variations in the shoreline become more obvious.

The beach's rural classification does not mean complete isolation. Roads, accommodation and places to eat are within reach, but they do not overwhelm the view. Lano-Samieira's strength is balance: enough length for a genuine beach walk, enough shelter for a relaxed ria atmosphere and enough surrounding greenery to preserve a sense of coastal space.
