About Playa Chancelas Pequena

The Vibe

The beach feels intimate because it is long but very narrow. On a quiet morning there is space for an unhurried swim or a short rest by the water, but the usable sand can fill quickly during warm summer weather. The tide also makes a visible difference to how much room remains.

Families and regular visitors appreciate the generally protected ria setting. It is not a beach for long walks or large groups spreading out across a broad strand. Its strength is the close relationship between the sand, the calm-looking water and the green, settled coast behind it.

The Setting

About

Chancelas Pequena is a narrow fine-sand beach in Poio, close to Combarro and immediately beside the larger Chancelas beach. Its semiurban setting combines a sheltered shoreline with houses, local roads and views across the Ria de Pontevedra towards Tambo Island.

The Local Anchor

Combarro is the main cultural anchor. The historic fishing village is known for granite houses, narrow lanes and raised granaries lining the shore, and it lies only a short distance east. Chancelas has a quieter residential identity, but it shares the same maritime landscape.

The neighbouring Chancelas beach extends the shoreline experience, while Ouriceira and Raxo lie farther west. Together these small beaches form a sequence of sheltered stops along the Poio coast rather than separate resort centres.

The Landscape

Chancelas Pequena is about 140 metres long and only a few metres wide in places. Fine pale sand lies inside the Ria de Pontevedra, where direct Atlantic swell is reduced by the estuary and surrounding headlands.

Tambo Island is the defining feature offshore. Its wooded shape sits between Poio and Marin and gives the view a sense of depth, especially when small boats cross in front of it. Rocks and vegetation frame sections of the beach, while nearby buildings remain visible behind the shore.

Low tide opens more of the strand and makes it easier to move between Chancelas Pequena and the adjoining coast. At higher water, the beach becomes much tighter. Visitors planning to stay for several hours should check the tide and leave belongings well above the waterline.
