About Playa Cabeceira
The beach is popular with families because it combines manageable scale with a protected ria setting. The sand is broad enough for a comfortable day, while the trees offer useful shade away from the water. In summer the central area can feel lively, but the atmosphere remains relaxed rather than resort-driven.
Cabeceira works well for swimming when conditions are suitable, paddling and easy shoreline walks. The promenade links it naturally with the surrounding Lourido coast, so visitors can move between beach, pine shade and open estuary views without relying on a car once they arrive.

The Setting
Cabeceira is a sheltered fine-sand beach in Campelo, Poio, a short distance from Pontevedra. A small pine grove, promenade and clear view towards Tambo Island give it a greener and more contained character than neighbouring Lourido.
Campelo is the immediate maritime anchor. Its harbour and shellfish traditions reflect Poio's continuing relationship with the Ria de Pontevedra. Small boats and working waterfront activity remain part of the wider scene.
The Monastery of Poio lies inland and provides the area's strongest historic landmark. Its long religious history, large cloisters and monumental stone granary make it a rewarding addition to a beach day. Pontevedra's old town is also close, placing Cabeceira within easy reach of cultural and urban attractions.
Cabeceira is about 200 to 220 metres long, with fine pale sand in a sheltered half-shell setting. The beach is backed by a pine area that softens the transition to the promenade and nearby roads.
Tambo Island stands directly across the ria and dominates the view. Its wooded slopes create a strong natural focal point, while the opposite shore and outer estuary form the more distant horizon.
Tide changes both the width of the beach and the appearance of the shallow water. Lower tide exposes more sand and intertidal ground; higher water creates a compact, well-defined cove. Although the ria is protected, wind can still affect the surface and activities should match the conditions. Cabeceira's strength is the balance of easy access, family-friendly scale, pine shade and one of Poio's clearest island views.
